OK...so, I bought Pete's 144 and a lot of his goodies for it. It's going to take a LOT of work to bring this baby back. But, the body's straight; it can happen! Here's some first day shots:![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() What do y'all think...bring it back stock, which has a certain appeal to me (might actually win something at a VCOA meet!) or go w/ a later motor tricked out and turbo'd? I have plenty of time to decide. Edited by swiftjustice44, Oct 5 2008, 10:53 PM.

Well, I already have the white car pretty well hot rodded. My 245 should be killer when we finally finish (end of the month, I hope!). Really my options are o.e. motor and transmission w/ dual Webers, Pete's tricked out B21, laid over n/a w/ an M46 or standing up using an M410. Even standing up, there is room for a turbo but exhaust is tight. Laid over in standard trim, the B21 realistically has to go n/a. Still could be hot...but I've done all that. I think it would be cool to take the B20 push rod motor and go thru it w/ a fine tooth comb...zero deck it, port and polish the head...maybe shave the head a little, hang a set of Weber DCOE's on it and see what it would do. I've got the IPD sways...so Bilsteins are realistic. Would be nice to have a car that I don't have to tweak this or that every time I go somewhere. But...I flip flop...and I have lots of time. Whenever my 245 rolls out, the 242 I bought from Chris comes in for a V8 transplant. It's old enough emissions aren't an issue so it's gonna be fun!! Very old school....big lopey cam, 750 or 850 double pumper carb(s), T5 transmission, Mustang 8.8 rear end. Should take all winter to build, as time permits. THEN...I can figure out what to do w/ the 144. Any and all input on the 144 is welcome!! And no...putting my 347 from the white car in is NOT an option!! I have way too much money invested making that sucker pass emissions, quick AND get decent highway mileage to even consider moving it!! Hmmmmmm.................. Jon, lots of options. I still think the B21F which is already got the fully built ported head and forged bottom end, and K-Jet with the Unwired Tech metering valve is the way to go. Should give you 250hp with that H cam in there. It will surpasss anything n/a in a four banger except the B20 with four Webers. Let me know when you want to come by and pick up the rest of your parts. |

soon, very soon.... I just wonder about the B20 tho. Tired of all the blue hairs sticking their noses up in the air when they see a hot rod. I've been pricing the Weber 45 DCOE's. W/ twin mini-manis it's the better part of a grand easily. If you stood the B21 up, how/what were you doing for motor mounts? |

Jon, If you stand it up, you need custom motor mount brackets, and use the stock rubber mounts. There's a guy in Nebraska (He was at the Mid-Sommar event) that makes the brackets for $100/set. You need to sit it upright for a turbo, but the B21/23/230 can sit at 15 deg and mount with the stock mounts if kept n/a. I've seen pic's of it done, but never saw a car it that way. That is the easest way to get it done, as is putting in an M46. As soon as you go upright, things get complicated, like tranny's that need custom adapter plates (T5's are made for 15 deg), and that M410 wil need a lot of custom work to get it to fit. |

OK...let's say, for the moment, I do the B21 laid over. You say stock motor mounts; for the B21, right? Not B20 mounts? I ask because I've seen a few OHC motors but never really looked at any older pushrod motors or how/where the mounts attach. In many ways, the 240 is just a refinement of the 140...but in some areas quite different. Not seeing strut towers under the hood is wild! The attachment points look similar though. You do realize I'll never, I mean NEVER win a damn thing at a VCOA meet w/ a B21, right? It's still an attractive deal though as the motor is, I'm assomeing, good to go. I have a couple M46's...I plan on doing this one on my own so the simplicity is attractive. We even have o.e. Sachs/Bose shocks upstairs for it...but too soft for me. And, some KY's...which aren't too bad. Lots to think about!

Yes the B21 mounts are used, but you probably need to grind off the pins and use only the block to rubber mount aluminum bracket since the lower portion is welded into the lower crossmember on the 140. The purists will never let you win. You would need to re- build that B20F AND use D-Jet to make them smile. You can always do it the 'Stealth' way, and gut the computer box under the seat, plant a LH 2.4 box inside it and run MS to the orig injectors. There was a guy on TB that did it this way. BTW there's no computer or injectors/rail/fpr on the engine, sold that long ago, but it shouldn't be too hard to replicate a way to make it look stock. On the shocks, I have a set of Monroe Gas-matic shocks I was going to use on the rear (they're really not a bad shock) that I'll throw in, far better than the Boge. A set of KYB's run $250 for the good ones, there are different KYB's... |

Well, all I have to do, really, is just not show the car for 10 years. They'll all be dead or in rest homes griping about the other old folks modified wheel chairs! In 10 years, you and I will be the old farts! We'll rule!! Un-modded cars will not be sanctioned! They'll have to park outside the pavillion! Muahahahahahahaha.................

oddly enough...i know how to get those off. That is what I use on my wagon. When I had the Geminis on it, i had a stud come loose and it was just spinning in the hub. Guess which one it just happened to be. Gorilla locks are no match for me and my ingenuity. |
