Posts: 1,418 Group: OH Moderator Member #8 Joined: May 13, 2006 Origin Board Volvospeed Name Nick Location Fort Worth, Texas	The Texas Chapter of the VCOA will be having a meet May 1 at Cedar Hill State Park, and we'll be joined by some representatives of Volvo Cars of North America. VCNA wants to bring some new models out and give our members a chance to drive them. We'll have a short cruise route to the park (around 30-minute drive) where we will then have a cook out, car show and time to drive some new Volvos. This is the first time VCNA has done this in Texas, and we are looking to have a good turnout to establish a relationship so we can do more things together in the future. We have a pavilion with grill and bathrooms and our over private parking area on the top of a nice little hill that has trees for some shade and some lake views. We do have a reservation for this site. We have the spot from 10 a.m.- 10 p.m. We'll meet at the Sonic at I20 and Great Southwest Pkwy at 9:30 a.m. for a quick breakfast and time to group up. We'll roll out at 10 a.m. for the park. It will be around a 15-mile cruise around Joe Pool Lake that will take roughly 30 minutes. Once at the park (10:30 a.m.) we will have our usual people's choice show., interact with the VCNA folks and drive some new Volvos. Lunch will be our usual burgers and dogs (with all the fixings), and will be served starting at noon. Lunch is provided by VCNA. You will need $5 to get into the park. After lunch, people's choice ballots will be totaled and we will give out awards and do some door prizes. We should wrap it up around 3-4 p.m. If there is interest, we will go as a group to the Bishop Arts district near downtown Dallas for group dinner. Cruise start time: 9:30 a.m. Location: Sonic at 4050 Great Southwest Pkwy Grand Prairie, Tx Cruise roll out: 10 a.m. End Cruise: 10:30 a.m. Location: Cedar Hill Start Park at 1570 West FM1382 Cedar Hill, Tx Pavilion J Lunch: Noon What: Burgers, Hot Dogs, Chips, Drinks, Cookies, etc. Awards: 2:30 p.m. What: People's Choice for multiple classes End Meet: 4 p.m. approx. It's about time that something like this happened locally. I like it. The big question to ask is how much/if the local Volvo of Dallas or other dealers would like to be involved. The new dealership in Frisco and surrounding area would be good for the meet, lots of nice hotels and restuarants. I bet if asked Volvo of Dallas would spring for having the meet there and some good catered BBQ or something like that. Setting up a poker run/road course from there north to the lakes wouldn't be too difficult, either, say to Lake Ray Roberts State Park. Let me know if you need some help.

Prefer a park of some sort with grills, plenty of parking and access to some nice roads to drive the VCNA demo cars on. Wish we could but too far south. Volvo is bringing 6 cars so 30-45 min from Dallas is about as far out as we can get...too hard for them to get the cars situated otherwise. I appreciate the offer but this event is not to be held in conjunction with any Volvo dealer per VCNA. They don't want any bias with the local dealers going on. I know the GM of PP Volvo very well and have spoke to him about the next large Dallas meet we do. Nick

Original post here: I was informed yesterday by John Holtzapple (VCOA President) Volvo Cars North America has approached the VCOA with teaming up with various VCOA chapters to host a meet in their area that will be funded by Volvo Cars and have their full support with Volvo Cars staff and 6+ current model Volvo vehicles on hand for us to experience and provide feedback on- with no sales people involvement. Volvo Cars goal is to connect with the VCOA members for feedback from some of the major supporters of their brand and put their local reps in touch with the local chapters so that they can be more involved with what we do. They offered me the date of May 1 (sat) for Dallas (due to travel and time constraints they tell us when they can do that state- this is the date and location they gave me so work with me here). The date is set but location and events are for us to choose, they have allocated $1,000 to support us and possibly more if needed, in addition to bringing cars and Volvo staff. I have already confirmed we would like to do such an event and am waiting to be contacted by Volvo Cars public relations department for further details. Feel free to give me comments on what you would like to do- I was thinking a group drive from a central location out to one of the state parks on any of the lakes around DFW for a really nice venue location. I do want to keep the location of the show in a public area that will have some public traffic so Volvo gets some public exposure as well as out various Volvo groups within Texas. Throw any ideas out there- all will be considered. As we get things nailed down I will provide details. This is going to be big so people not living in the DFW area make plans to be in Dallas May 1, 2010. Typically we are working with a much smaller budget so if you guys have a really cool meet idea that we might not typically be able to do due to cost now would be the time. I'd like to have a few options together to take a vote on at the meet in Austin. Let me know your thoughts. Thank you, Nick
